FORT BRAGG, N.C. – A lucky few came out to watch an 82nd Airborne training operation on Saturday morning on Fort Bragg.
The event was hosted by 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, as part of the Proficiency Jump Program at Sicily Drop Zone.
The Saturday Proficiency Jump Program is the XVIII Airborne Corps Commanding General’s program.
It is conducted to provide a means for qualified and interested paratroopers to conduct additional jumps for individual currency and proficiency.
“Proficiency builds confidence,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Benjamin Jones, senior enlisted leader of the XVIII Airborne Corps. “The more repetitions, the better.”
Saturday’s airborne operation was the second iteration since the program was reinstated in October.
Command Sgt. Major Brian Severino said that Saturday’s jump had “beautiful weather” with calm winds around 4 knots.
“It provides all the jumpers with very soft landings today,” Severino said.
Although this is typically a monthly program, paratroopers will not be jumping in December because of the holidays.
