CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (WNCN) — The UNC Tar Heels basketball team lost their first game of the year on Saturday — just as the school’s football team recorded an historic win in overtime, clinching the Coastal Division of the ACC.
Northern Iowa defeated Carolina, 71-67. UNC falls to 3-1 and will play Northwestern on Monday.

Carolina was ahead of Northern Iowa, 41-32, at the half, with the Tar Heels hitting 6 of their last 7 shots in the first half.
But, they watched that lead fall apart and were last up 58-56 with 7:43 to play in the game.
The Panthers (2-1) used a 29-8 stretch over 12 minutes of the second half to turn a 50-34 deficit into a 63-58 lead, and held on for the upset.
Northern Iowa also got 19 points from Matt Bohannon and 14 points from Paul Jesperson.
Justin Jackson had 25 points for the Tar Heels, who scheduled a trip to Cedar Falls so senior Marcus Paige could play in his home state.
Paige didn’t play because of a broken bone in his right hand. The Tar Heels could have used him, as Paige’s replacement, Joel Berry, had just five points on 2-of-7 shooting, and the Tar Heels committed 12 turnovers.
The Panthers also beat the Tar Heels in the paint, 24-22, after Kennedy Meeks scored the first eight points for UNC.
UNC was down 70-67 with the ball and called timeout with 57 seconds left.
However, UNC was not able to come back in the last minute.
