Registered sex offender charged in 2006 sexual assault cold case, NC police say

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – Fayetteville police arrested a registered sex offender wanted in connection with a 2006 sexual assault.

The Fayetteville Police Department Cold Case Sexual Assault Unit received an arrest warrant for Anthony Jerome Lindsey, 49, after DNA linked him to the cold case.

Lindsey, a registered sex offender, was already in prison for failing to register as a sex offender. He was taken from the Tabor Correctional Institute back to the Cumberland County Detention Center where the warrant was served to him.

He was charged with second-degree rape and given a $10,000 secured bond.

The family of the 2006 victim knew Lindsey but didn’t know his full name.

He is a registered sex offender for an indecent liberties with a 13-year-old minor incident from August 1995.
