LILLINGTON, N.C. (WNCN) – A Harnett County detention officer was fired when he was named as a suspect in an exploitation of a minor report, the sheriff’s office said.
On Nov. 19, the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office received a report that named James Robert Michael, 26, as a suspect in an exploitation of a minor case.
Michael worked as a detention officer and was terminated the following day, the sheriff’s office said.
Michael was charged with one felony count of solicit a child by computer and was arrested Nov. 23.
Court documents say Michael solicited sex from a 15-year-old girl on Facebook and Instagram Oct. 16-18.
The victim opened up about the exchange to a counselor who then told the victim’s father. The father reported the incident to the sheriff’s office, court documents show.
The victim told Michael she was only 15 years old to which he replied, “age is only a number in my book.”
Michael attended the same school where the victim goes.
Michael was released on a $30,000 secured bond.
WNCN went to Michael’s home where he said he had no comment on the charges.
