RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A man was killed when he was pinned under a tractor trailer while working off Gresham Lake Road in Raleigh Tuesday afternoon, according to a 911 call and Raleigh police.
The accident occurred near Gresham Lake Road and Northside Drive, Raleigh police said.
Raleigh police identified the victim as Steve Jacques Fauche, 51, of Gateway Drive Park in Raleigh.
A man called 911 to report a tractor trailer had rolled on top of Fauche and the vehicle was still on top of him.
The caller said he could not reach Fauche but he was “not responding at all.”
Wednesday evening, police released a report that describes how the incident happened:
Fauche was sitting in the cab of a truck, while the truck was being unhooked from the trailer, according to the report.
Once the truck one was unhooked, Fauche got out of the truck to unhook chains from the front of truck, police said in a report.
However, Fauche left the truck in 2nd gear and the parking brake was not set, according to the report.
While Fauche was unhooking the chains, the truck began “to drive forward on its own, striking and running over” Fauche, police said.
Fauche became trapped under the truck, according to the report. That truck then kept rolling and hit a trailer across the parking lot.
Sirens can be heard in the background when the caller tells the dispatcher he doesn’t think the victim is breathing.
Raleigh police are still investigating the incident.
