GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) – A tractor trailer hauling a chicken byproduct spilled some of its load in an incident on Interstate-40 East Wednesday morning.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the driver of the tractor trailer had to brake quickly, causing some of that byproduct to spill from the top of the trailer just before the I-70 East interchange.
The top of the trailer was covered with a tarp.
All eastbound lanes were blocked while crews worked to clean up the mess.
The two left lanes reopened later but driver’s saw delays until 3 p.m.
The spill backed up traffic for seven miles at one point.
“I wanted to pull my hair out strand by strand than to sit in that traffic,” said driver Eboni Harrell.
Sgt. Michael Baker with the State Highway Patrol said the NCDOT responded immediately to the incident.
“[The NCDOT] attempted to put down some sand onto the highway,” Baker said.
The tractor trailer did not collide with any other vehicles during the incident.
