Pedestrian hit on I-440 in Raleigh identified

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Raleigh police have identified the pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle on Interstate 440 in Raleigh Thursday night.

The accident happened around 10:30 p.m. Thursday on I-440 near the New Bern Avenue exit. According to a wreck report released Friday morning, Daniel Del Toro Lopez, 24, of Durham was hit while standing near a disabled vehicle on I-440.

Police said the vehicle was disabled in the center lane of I-440 eastbound. Police said a second vehicle was traveling in the same lane as the disable vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle, Nemesis Semidey Torres, tried to avoid an accident by swerving into another lane, but the vehicle ended up side-swiping the disabled vehicle and hitting Lopez, police said.

Three lanes of I-440 were closed while police investigated the incident.

Lopez was taken to WakeMed, where is condition is unknown.
