Man gets shot, requests Uber to get a ride home

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids Police are investigating after they say a man was shot early Thursday morning and called Uber to drive him home.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. and dispatchers say the victim, a man in his 20s, was picked up in Grand Rapids by an Uber driver. The driver noticed what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the victim’s leg. Police say the victim mumbled something about getting hurt at J. Gardella’s Tavern.

Grand Rapids Police say when they went to investigate, they noticed the man had an injury, however the man was intoxicated and could not tell them what happened. Police later confirmed he was shot.

No witnesses saw anything outside of J. Gardella’s. The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 616.456.3400 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.
