WHITEVILLE, N.C. (WECT/AP) – The body of a Lumberton man who was reported missing Saturday after he fell from his small fishing boat in Columbus County was located around 9:30 Monday morning, according to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.
The Fayetteville Observer reported Columbus County Coroner Linwood Cartrette said 62-year-old Bill Lowery apparently fell into Inman Lake on Saturday afternoon. Cartrette said two friends fishing with Lowery did not see him fall but heard the splash.
Columbus County Emergency Services Director Kay Worley said rescue crews with boats from Whiteville Rescue, Lake Waccamaw Rescue and the Tabor City Fire Department searched when Lowery was reported missing Saturday.
Worley said crews were joined by a helicopter from Bladen County and a cadaver dog from Brunswick County during Sunday’s search.
The sheriff’s office is expected to release more details about the incident, so stay with this story.
