CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) – A toddler is continuing his road to recovery at UNC Hospitals after a rottweiler attacked him at a home in raleigh.
The boy, who is just 21 months old, suffered serious injuries to his face.
“It’s a horrible feeling to find your child like that and you’re helpless,” said his mother, Brittany, who asked that WNCN not use the family’s last name.
And when your child is facing a long stay in the hospital, that’s a feeling that doesn’t go away.
Ryder and his parents were visiting friends at a Raleigh home Friday when at least one dog, a Rottweiler, attacked him in the backyard.
Ryder has had two surgeries already and will have two more this week. The big surgery is Friday, with skin and tissue graft.
Brittany said what has helped her and her family is the support they’ve received. Some has come from people in Arizona, Arkansas and even Australia.
Brittany said her son was playing inside and there were two Rottweilers outside in the yard.
Ryder managed to get out through the dog door when no one was looking.
The dog owners voluntarily surrendered the dogs and they’ll be put down. As of Monday, they remain in quarantine with the county.
Meanwhile, Brittany continues to ask for prayers for her son.
She said she wants everyone to know “that Ryder is still fighting.”
A GoFundMe page to help with expenses already has raised more than $3,600.
