ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — A woman who ran a Triad family care home faces multiple counts of patient abuse and neglect.

Donna Jefferson Lewis, 51, of Elon, was indicted by a grand jury on five felony charges, Alamance County deputies said Friday.

Deputies said they received a complaint from county DSS officials in January of alleged abuse of a patient at the D&M Family Care Home on Burch Bridge Road in Burlington. The facility was closed in January, and a former employee also was arrested that month.

Deputies allege Jefferson allowed patients to be improperly medicated at her facility, kept patients from getting necessary specialized care and refused patients’ use of their medical devices.

Jefferson’s bond was set at $125,000 secured.
