RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A Rocky Mount man is facing charges after causing a wreck that killed one person and seriously injured another Sunday morning in Raleigh, police said.
A vehicle driven by Reginald Antwan Scott, 32, and carrying Rondell Shontee Kimble, 40, was traveling south on Wake Forest Road just before 2:30 a.m. when Scott attempted to make a left turn onto Hodges Street and was hit by a car driven by Kyndel Jemel Eason, 28, of Rocky Mount, police said.
According to authorities, Eason was traveling north on Wake Forest Road in the left travel lane when he slammed into the right side of Scott’s car.
Kimble was declared dead at the scene. Scott was in fair condition Sunday afternoon after being transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Eason was also transported to the hospital before he was taken to the Wake County Detention Center.
Eason’s rate of speed is believed to have played a significant role in the crash, police said. He was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, operating a vehicle without a license, and carrying a concealed weapon.
The investigation into the wreck is ongoing.
Wake Forest Road was closed for nearly four hours while emergency crews and the Raleigh Police Crash Reconstruction Unit worked the scene.
