CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) — A man turned himself in to police over the weekend saying he was the driver that fatally struck and killed a teen on Pineville-Matthews road, according to police.
Juston Riccardo Jones, 25, was charged with felony hit-and-run in the crash that killed Jeanny Phara Lamartiniere.
Earlier on Saturday, the car suspected of hitting and killing a 19-year-old in south Charlotte has been found. Jones surrendered to police later in the day.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, an anonymous caller said the Infiniti J30 that police were looking for was in the 7300 block of Pebblestone Drive.. The car was found under a car cover and missing the driver’s side mirror.
Detectives were able to confirm that the burgundy car under the cover was the suspect vehicle involved in hit-and-run that killed Lamartiniere.
Wednesday, Lamartiniere was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after being hit by a car. Police say she was unresponsive when they got to the hit-and-run scene on Highway 51. She later died from her injuries.
Lamartiniere was reportedly riding in a car with a man when the two got into an argument. She got out of the car and was struck by the burgundy car. The driver of that car then took off east on Pineville-Matthews Road.
Detectives were not able to find the driver or registered owner of the vehicle around the area the car was found, but say they have a search warrant to seize the car into evidence. The car was taken to police headquarters to be processed.
Any person who witnessed the crash or has additional information about the case is asked to call Detective Oberer at 704-432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
