GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) – A Gaston County man is charged with leaving his toddler in a running vehicle with no heat for four hours Sunday night.
It was reportedly 40-degrees outside at the time.
Joshua Dale Smith,31, left his 2-year-old son in the car, showing “reckless disregard for human life,” officials say. They believe the incident will result in serious mental injury to the toddler.
When police arrived, the child was emotionally withdrawn and unwilling to communicate with police, officers say.
Smith is facing child abuse charges and is being held on a $25,000 bond. He is expected in court Monday afternoon.
