Pastor, restaurant owner buy new car for mother of 2

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — One of Morgan Carter’s worst days turned out to be one of her best on Friday.

Carter was on her lunch break at the Rivergate Chick-Fil-A when her car began to smoke.

“I was panicking, I didn’t really know what was happening,” Carter said.

She pulled into a parking spot and that’s when flames started shooting out of her hood.

The owner of the restaurant, Todd Hunley, tried to put the flames out with a fire extinguisher with no luck.

As carter watched her car go up in flames, Pastor Kevin Cook, who just happened to be inside, came out to offer a hand and that’s when Carter’s bad day took a turn.

“I just asked her, ‘Hey what can I do to help?’ She was like ‘I really just want you to pray that somehow we can get a car, because this is all we have.’ I knew in that moment that was what we were supposed to do,” Cook said.

Cook and Hunley found Carter a car and within the hour the Crosspoint Community Church bought a van and delivered it to her in the parking lot.

The owner of the Chick-Fil-A also donated $500 to help buy the new van.

“I was hysterical. I was crying and I was happy at the same time, but still in shock from just everything that was going and for it to just end so wonderful
is just amazing,” said Carter.

Carter, a mother of two young boys, said the Pontiac was her only family car and that she always wanted a minivan.

“When I saw the car seat in the car, I’m like ‘This is it. There is no way we can leave here until she’s got a vehicle,’” said Cook.

“I love it, my kids love it, I love it, it’s just awesome, it’s awesome,” explained Carter.

“I definitely wasn’t expecting anything like that to happen on a lunch break, but for such a terrible thing to happen it ended the best way that it possibly could.”

Carter is still in shock that her prayer was answered and she hopes to pay the gesture forward to someone else in need.

“There are good people out there and I’m so blessed to be one of those people that was able to be helped and I hope one day to be able to do that for someone else,” added Carter.
