RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A former Republican state representative announced he will challenge Gov. Pat McCrory for the nomination for governor.
Robert Brawley announced on Facebook he intended to file to be North Carolina’s next governor.
“The people of North Carolina deserve leadership that will look out for their interests, not deep pocketed special interests. My record shows I’m not afraid to challenge the powerful special interests in Raleigh, and as Governor, I’ll run them right out of this state,” Brawley posted on social media.
He served in the House representing Iredell and Catawba counties from 1981 until he retired in 1998.
Brawley lost a bid to be North Carolina commissioner of insurance in 2004.
