NC Salvation Army kettle stolen when bell ringer takes restroom break

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WXII)Winston-Salem police are trying to find whoever stole a Salvation Army red kettle–and the donations inside it–outside a grocery store.

The incident was reported Tuesday afternoon at the Lowes Foods at 2890 Reynolda Road. The store is located at the Reynolda Manor Shopping Center near Fairlawn Drive.

According to Salvation Army officials, police said the kettle was stolen as the bell ringer took a short bathroom break. The kettle had an unknown amount of donated money inside, nonprofit officials said.

Surveillance video showed two suspects, one of whom had the kettle in hand, Salvation Army officials said. One suspect was seen in a nearby East Coast Winds and left with the first suspect.

If you have any information that can help investigators, you’re asked to call Winston-Salem Crimestoppers at 336-727-2800.

Veronica White will have more details later Wednesday on WXII 12 News.
