Planned Parenthood shooting suspect tells court: ‘I’m a warrior for the babies’

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KXRM) — During a court appearance Wednesday, Planned Parenthood shooting suspect Robert Dear said “I’m guilty. No trial. I’m a warrior for the babies.”

The statement was one of more than a dozen outbursts Dear made during the court appearance, speaking out of turn each time. It was confirmed by FOX21 reporter Kody Fisher, who was inside the courtroom. Cameras and other electronic devices were not allowed in the courtroom.

In reference to his attorney, public defender Dan King, Dear said, “I will not meet with him again.”

King also represented James Holmes during the Aurora theater shooting trial.

“Do you know who this lawyer is?,” Dear said during the court appearance. “He’s the lawyer for the Batman shooter. They drugged him all up. That’s what they want to do to me.”

During the hearing, Dear made statements about being housed without a toilet and running water, and asked for Amnesty International to contact him.

As officials were discussing a gag order against police and other investigators, Dear said, “Can you add the babies that were going to be aborted that day? Can you add that to the list?”

King expressed concerns about Dear’s competency for trial.

“We don’t know the depth of his mental illness,” King said. “Serious concerns of competency.”

Dear is accused of first-degree murder in connection with the November 27 shooting, which killed three people and injured nine others. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 23.
