GASTONIA, N.C. (WBTV) – A father shot his son in Gaston County Monday during a domestic dispute, police say.
The shooting happened around 11:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Long Creek Church Road.
The son was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the hip.
A press release from the Gaston County Police Department states that Samuel Williams and his son, Daniel Williams, were fighting in the driveway of a home when a 911 call was made. The release states that shots were fired shortly after the first call was made.
The younger Williams required surgery at the hospital, according to the release. During the incident, dozens of people were gathered for a funeral nearly 50 yards up the road.
“We were forced to go around through the cemetery to get through to the funeral,” said Dallas resident Gary Addington.
Others said they were troubled by the incident.
“It’s terrible. I mean I just live down the road. You just don’t what’s gonna happen,” said Janice Costner.
Police say Samuel Williams is cooperating with the investigation. They say the District Attorney’s Office will help decide whether anyone is charged in relation to the incident.
