Alaska family lets you control their Christmas lights

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KXAN) – Ken Woods is an IT guy. He rigged his family’s Christmas lights so anyone on the internet, anywhere in the world, can control them. It only takes up to five seconds for them to respond.

There are 12 strings of lights on the outside of the home, by logging onto christmasinfairbanks.com you can turn them on and off at will.

There’s a counter on the site to see how many other people you’re competing with. It’s probably more fun to try it when less people are on the site.

Woods says his bill to run the website adds up to about $400 a month and he accepts donations. Some people have even seen the Woods’ in the windows.

“Turn the lights on and off and we’ll wave,” he says on the sites frequently asked questions.

He says it’s his family’s way of adding a little joy to everyone’s holiday.
