JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – Two people in Onslow County are accused of abusing a five-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy.
Jason Abraham Rivera and Anna Marie Ayala were arrested after the abuse at a home in Jacksonville, according to officials.
Authorities say Rivera beat Ayala’s children in the face and head and picked one of them up by the throat. Deputies say Rivera and Ayala are in a relationship.
According to the warrants, the boy was pushed to the ground, punched in the stomach and face, and his wrist was injured. The warrants also state the girl was grabbed by the arm and thrown to the floor several times.
Ayala was charged when she failed to report the assaults to authorities or seek medical attention for the children.
Rivera was charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious physical injury, two counts of misdemeanor child abuse, and three counts of misdemeanor of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. His bond was set at $25,000 secured.
Ayala was charged with felony negligent child abuse, three counts of misdemeanor child abuse and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Her bond was set at $14,000 secured bond.
