LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) – A former Denver-area softball coach is charged in connection to a child sexual assault that happened more than five years ago, officials say.

The suspect, 49-year-old Frederick Solomita, now lives in Long Beach, New York. Deputies received a report in August from the victim, alleging she and Solomita were in a sexual relationship when she was between the ages of 13 and 14.

Solomita was a girl’s softball coach at the time and lived in the Denver area, officials say. The incidents reportedly happened between 2009 and 2010. Solomita was arrested Dec. 9 for statutory rape. He turned himself in at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 2, officials say.

Solomita was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center and given a $20,000 secured bond.
