DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Despite the bad weather — the holiday shopping frenzy continued around the Triangle on Wednesday.
The day for started off badly for some — with several weather related accidents along the I-440 belt line that caused delays and sent at least one person to the hospital for treatment according to Raleigh police.
In Durham, heavy rains caused some minor flooding that made a mess of things in the area of Club Boulevard and several other areas.
For those out holiday shopping the sometimes torrential rains were a bit of a surprise for folks like Elizabeth Dunphy who, along with several friends, weren’t wearing any foul weather gear.
“We didn’t know it was going to rain this hard so we put on whatever we wanted and walked out of the house,” she said.
Many folks took today off to try and get those last minute gifts. As they huddled out of the downpours waiting for the rain to abate, the shopping clock was ticking.
“I’m wasting a lot of time waiting for it to stop, said Meagan Cate who was waiting beneath an awning belonging to a store in Cameron Village.
With temps in the 70’s, it was a warm rain, which made some folks grateful.
“It’s not snowing and it’s just rain’’ said shopper Reid Allen. “It’s all good, I’m dealing with it.”
Said shopper Rich Haar, “I’m just wading through it; picking up s few last things.”
