GREENSBORO, N.C. — A 17-year-old faces first-degree murder charges following the shooting deaths of two men who were sitting in a car earlier this month.
Chauncey Jamal Slade of Greensboro was charged in the deaths of Ernest Cuthbertson, 23, and Jeffrey Hampton, 44, Greensboro police said Tuesday. Slade also was charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling.
Both victims, who were cousins from Greensboro, were shot around 11 p.m. Dec. 2 in the 1000 block of East Bragg Street. Cuthbertson was found dead at the scene, while Hampton died at the hospital.
The shooting stemmed from a dispute involving Slade, Cuthbertson, Hampton and other people, police said. Slade knew Cuthberston before the incident, police said.
Investigators are still trying to determine the motive for the shooting, as well as what the dispute entailed.
Slade was served Friday on arrest warrants for the murder charges. He was in the Guilford County Jail in High Point that day after being arrested on suspicion of stealing items from multiple vehicles on Dec. 15, police said.
