FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A man was shot in the head after a group of people began fighting in the parking lot of a Fayetteville gas station store on Wednesday afternoon, police and witnesses say.
The incident happened at about 2:30 p.m. at Day & Nite III gas station and convenience store at 1711 Clinton Road, Fayetteville Police said.
“All I know is he pulled a gun out of his pants and started shooting everywhere,” a witness told WNCN about the incident.
The suspect involved is being sought by authorities, but police did not release a description.
Police said that two groups who are known to each other got into an argument that led to the shooting.
“He (the victim) was in the process of pumping gas (and) his group had words with another group of folks (and) shots were ultimately fired and the driver of the vehicle sustained the minor gunshot wound,” said Fayetteville Police Sergeant Davis .
One person pulled out a gun and fired shots at a vehicle, police said.
“One of the rounds grazed a subject, who was in the vehicle, on the head,” police said in a press release. Photos from the scene showed a car with two bullet holes in the front windshield.
The victim’s car was also involved in a minor crash with a pole — possibly after the shooting. Air bags were deployed on the sedan that was hit by gunfire.
“The suspect then fled the area on foot toward Plymouth Street,” police added.
Detectives are currently investigating the shooting.
