WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Authorities arrested an 18-year-old man Monday for promoting the prostitution of a minor.
According to Lt. Jerry Brewer with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation revealed Philip Scott Pleasants took a 17-year-old girl to meet different “Johns,” or clients, in the county.
Pleasants was taken into custody at the Budgetel Inn on Market Street, and charged with two counts of promoting the prostitution of a minor. He was placed in the New Hanover County Jail under a $250,000 bond.
The Budgetel Inn is one of six hotels and motels on Market Street given letters demanding they clean up their act or lose their property.
In the letters, the Wilmington Police Department said they had repeatedly responded to calls for service at the establishments, which included prostitution, assaults, fights, discharging of firearms and the illegal sale of narcotics.
In November, deputies arrested Kasi Smith, 25, at the Budgetel Inn for two counts of promoting the prostitution of a minor.
