KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Kinston police are searching for a suspect in a Saturday night shooting that left a teen dead.

The Department of Public Safety said the shooting happened in the 900 Block of East Shine Street around 10:15.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found 18-year-old Richard Earl Sutton III with multiple gunshot wounds. Sutton died at the scene.

“He had potential. He was smart.” said Dontario Turnage, an acquaintance of Sutton.

Friends of Richard Sutton III are remembering the good times and how he made an impact on their lives.

“Everyone loves his music. Even people that didn’t like him loved his music,” Turnage said.

Sutton was a rapper and had a passion for music. His friends and fans took to Facebook Saturday to write their condolences.

Sutton was shot in the same area on Sept. 28, 2014; an arrest was made in that case.
