FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – A 32-year-old Hope Mills day care worker has been charged with child abuse after police said she dislocated a toddler’s elbow.
The parents of a 22-month-old child told the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office their child was treated at Cape Fear Valley Health System Nov. 20 for a dislocated elbow.
The injury is commonly known as “nurse maid elbow,” the sheriff’s office said.
The toddler’s injury occurred when the child was in the care of Luv’s Daycare, located at 634 Sandhills Rd. in Hope Mills.
Detectives found Chastity Patterson, of 2206 Spindletree Drive in Fayetteville, was in charge of caring for the toddler when the injury occurred.
The sheriff’s office said Patterson pulled the toddler’s arm so the elbow separated when she was trying to get the child to pick up toys.
Patterson was arrested Dec. 29 and charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury. She was given a $10,000 secured bond.
She has a scheduled court appearance for Dec. 30.
