RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – It’s Jan. 1, so why not kick off 2016 with a bang?
If you’re looking to continue the New Year’s festivities, there is plenty to do around central North Carolina this weekend.
It’s First Friday in downtown Raleigh, and you can check out some of the hottest spots in the city on a self-guided tour.
Art galleries, museums and restaurants will keep their doors open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to help celebrate the first Friday of the month.
It’s free – just look for the First Friday flags to find participating venues.
It’s a big weekend in sports in the area, too.
At noon on Saturday, North Carolina plays at home in Chapel Hill against Georgia Tech.
And Saturday night at 7 p.m, the Carolina Hurricanes play at home against the Nashville Predators. The Canes are trying to improve on a 16-17-5 record. Tickets start at $30.
In Durham, you can catch a great play with “The Book of Mormon” going on at the Durham Performing Arts Center.
The Broadway smash gets rave reviews and runs through Jan. 10.
