Man charged with DWI in stealing, wrecking of NC police car

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BTV) – An impaired man was arrested for stealing and wrecking a police cruiser in west Charlotte early Friday morning, officials say.

Police say an officer was responding to a fight at Coyote Joe’s on Wilkinson Boulevard around 2 a.m. when 22-year-old Kody Grayson got in the officer’s car and fled the scene.

The cruiser was found wrecked on Scott Futrell Drive. Grayson was located in the 8300 block of Steele Creek Road. Medic was called to treat a leg injury Grayson sustained during the crash.

Grayson, of Gastonia, was taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, driving while impaired, reckless driving to endanger, resisting a public officer, and hit and run.
