1,500 piglets die in NC farm fire, officials say

CLINTON, N.C. (WNCN) — A fire on a farm in Sampson County killed about 1,500 piglets early Wednesday morning.

The fire was first noticed on the property around 5:45 a.m., said Sampson County Fire Marshal Brinson Cashwell.

The fire happened at Keith Butler Farms, which is a contract grower for Prestige Farms, Cashwell said.

Cashwell said the fire near Clinton was extinguished and there were no human injuries.

Fire crews have cleared the scene, but other crews are still there cleaning up.
