CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) – A man was arrested in Cabarrus County after failing to stop for deputies and leading them on a low-speed chase with his son in the car.
The incident began Tuesday afternoon when deputies tried to stop a vehicle for a possible fictitious tag, but the driver didn’t stop.
Other deputies then joined the pursuit which, according to Cabarrus County Sheriff Brad Riley, never reached high speeds.
The driver was eventually stopped after officials said he ran out on gas on Brief Road East in Midland, which is in Union Count. WBTV’s Sky 3 was over the scene as multiple deputies searched the vehicle.
Deputies said the driver’s 7-year-old son was in the passenger seat. Sources also told WBTV that heroin was found in the car.
The man is facing several felony charges including speeding to elude arrest, fictitious tag and drug charges. Deputies said additional charges could be coming as well.
Law enforcement sources said Tuesday night that “multiple people” were arrested in connection to the incident, but they did not go into further detail.
No names have been released.
