NC dad charged with murder in 3-year-old son’s death

NEW BERN, NC (WNCN) — The Craven County Sheriff’s Office arrested a New Bern man Wednesday for the murder of his 3-year-old son, officials said.

Matthew Branden Ellington, age 25, has been charged with murder and felony child abuse inflicting serious injury.

Havelock EMS and Craven County Deputies were dispatched to 7650 US 70 Hwy E Lot 3 on December 27, 2015 in reference to an unresponsive child.

The child, who is the adopted son of Matthew Ellington, was taken to Carolina East Medical Center and then transferred to Vidant Medical in Greenville due to his injuries.

The child, Jaedyn Ellington, was suffering from several injuries including severe head trauma, the New Bern Sun Journal reported. The child then three days later died on December 30, 2015.

The Sheriff’s Office first began an investigation on December 27, 2015. As a result, Ellington was arrested Wednesday. Ellington was placed in the Craven County jail under no bond.

He is scheduled for first appearance in Craven County District Court on January 7.
