Suspect wearing a New York Yankees hat robs Chapel Hill bank

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) – A suspect wearing a New York Yankees hat robbed the State Employee’s Credit Union on North Chatham Parkway in Chapel Hill, authorities said.

An employee at the bank called 911 just after 3 p.m. to report a robbery, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said.

The suspect was wearing a blue New York Yankees hat with a striped, gray hoodie, gray t-shirt, black gloves, jeans and athletic shoes.

The suspect tried to conceal his face with a white t-shirt and sunglasses.

The sheriff’s office could not confirm if the suspect was armed.

The sheriff’s office said it is searching for a small, gray SUV involved in the robbery.

A SECU employee told authorities the suspect was dropped off by a vehicle of this description, left on foot, and may have been picked up by the same vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is requesting that anyone with any information regarding the robbery or identification of the suspect call their office at 919.542.2911 as soon as possible.
