No injuries in Durham officer-involved shooting; suspect on the run

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – A Durham Police officer involved in a shootout Saturday night was not injured and the suspect was not captured, police said Sunday.

A suspicious person shot at the officer at approximately 11:35 p.m. during a foot chase. The officer returned fire.

The incident occurred on Sima Avenue near Building 6 in the McDougald Terrace public housing complex, police said.

The incident happened after officers were investigating an incident near Sima Avenue when the suspect was overheard discussing criminal activity. When questioned by officers, the suspect ran and fired shots toward one of the officers, police said.

There were no injuries and no one is in custody at this time.

The Durham Police Department’s Professional Standards Division and Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the incident, which is standard procedure in any officer-involved shooting.
