Victim identified in deadly head-on crash in Johnston County

KENLY, N.C. (WNCN) – A man was killed in a head-on crash in Johnston County on Monday evening, Highway Patrol said.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. on N.C. 42 just east of Jerusalem Church Road in Kenly, Highway Patrol said.

Highway Patrol said a woman driving a Dodge Challenger ran off Highway 42 to the right, over-corrected, crossed the center line and hit a Chevrolet pickup truck head on.

The driver of the truck, 25-year-old Louis Brandon Howell, was killed in the crash.

Troopers believed the woman was speeding, but have not said how fast she was driving. The speed limit on N.C. 42 is 55 mph.

In addition to one fatality, three passengers in the Challenger were taken to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries.

Charges are pending in the incident.
