CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) – The visitation and services are scheduled for a 17-year-old Chapel Hill girl killed in a plane crash Jan. 4 on the Wyoming-Idaho border.
Visitation for Mackenzie Ruston will be Wednesday from 6:30-9 p.m. in the sanctuary of St. Thomas More Catholic Church at 940 Carmichael Street in Chapel Hill.
An overnight vigil will be held from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.
The funeral mass will begin Thursday at 11 a.m. followed by a reception.
Ruston will be buired Friday at 11 a.m. at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to help establish a fund in honor of Kenzie’s legacy to support the Bouncing Bulldogs program.
Contributions can be made here or by contacting Dawn and Mark Ruston at HonorKenzie@Rustonmail.com.
Ruston, a senior at East Chapel Hill High School, spent six days a week practicing with her jump rope team.
Her coach and teammates said Ruston was an amazing leader one of the best athletes they’ve ever met.
“She never was about greed. That’s the example she will leave behind,” said coach Ray Fredrick Jr. “I don’t have to do any speeches I just have to say to take notice of what Kenzie did that’s the way you lead.”
