DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A Durham police officer was involved in a crash on Tuesday night, officials said.

A Durham Police cruiser and another car collided just before 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Durham Police.

The incident happened on Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd. and Hope Valley Road.

An investigating police officer on the scene said the crash happened as the police cruiser was headed towards University Drive and the other car was traveling in the opposite direction.

For some reason the other car started veering into oncoming traffic, the investigator said.

The police officer tried to avoid the other car but got hit on the passenger side of the police cruiser, according to police on the scene.

The other car was hit on the passenger side.

The driver of the car was in possession of drugs, but police are not sure if the driver of the car was under the influence, according to the investigator.

As of 11:30 p.m., both vehicles were still in their crash positions and parts of the road were closed.

No one was hurt in the crash, which is under investigation.
