St. Augustine’s student charged in shooting of fellow student

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A Saint Augustine’s student was injured early Wednesday morning in a shooting on campus, the university said.

Shelley Willingham-Hinton, an official at Saint Augustine’s, said a shooting was reported Wednesday around 1 a.m.

University police and Raleigh Police reported to the school, which was placed on a brief lockdown Wednesday morning.

Police officers apprehended the suspect, who was later identified as 18-year-old Omari Fujah Williams, also a St. Augustine’s student.

Williams was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Williams was taken to the Wake County Detention Center.

Willingham-Hinton said one student was injured and taken to WakeMed where they were in stable condition. The victim was identified as 20-year-old Damarian Henderson.

The university said the shooting was an isolated incident and there was no further threat to campus.

The lockdown was lifted and classes were expected to resume as normal at 8 a.m.
