Sex predator police chase comes to fiery end

MARYSVILLE, Ohio (WCMH) – Children are always warned to be aware of strangers. One case of stranger danger in Marysville turned into a fiery, high speed chase.

Milford Center resident David Moore is accused of approaching a 13-year-old girl and asking for help finding his lost dog, according to Marysville Deputy Chief Tony Brooks. The girl’s father claims Moore also offered the girl toys.

The girl’s father called 911, giving dispatchers a license plate number and description of the dark colored van.

“The 13-year-old got a bad feeling or just sensed that this wasn’t right,” said Deputy Chief Brooks “She ran away from the situation and contacted her father who in turn called 911.”

Moments later, Marysville officers saw the van driven by David Moore. They turned their emergency lights on, but Moore took off.

“The officer tried to initiate a traffic stop. The suspect fled from the officers and got on U.S. 33 westbound. Speeds got into the area between 90-100 mph,” said Brooks.

Dash cam video shows Moore’s van weaving through traffic on U.S. 33. The footage also shows him dangerously veering in and out of lanes. His van only stopped once fire is visible.

“The vehicle started to catch fire,” said Brooks. “You could see flames coming out.”

Moore refused to get out of his van. Marysville police had to rescue his dog and pull him to safety.

“We are here putting our lives on the line for not only victims, but in this case, they put their lives on the line for a suspect,” said Brooks. “They are reaching in a car that is fully engulfed. Later, we found two full propane tanks in the back of the van.”

Nobody was hurt in this high speed chase. Marysville police say everyone in this case, from the 911 caller to police, did everything right.

Moore remains in the Tri County jail. He is charged with failure to comply with an officer. Marysville Police tell NBC4 other charges could be added.
