Two hurt after people jump from 2nd story during apartment fire in Garner

GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) — Two people were hospitalized and 17 residents were displaced after an apartment fire in Garner on Monday night.

The blaze was first reported just after 9 p.m. at the Greenbrier Apartments at 121 Shady Lawn Court in Garner.

People were jumping from the second floor of the apartments to avoid the flames and smoke, Garner Fire-Rescue officials said.

Two people were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, Garner Fire-Rescue officials said.

One apartment was damaged by fire, but 7 units were damaged by smoke and water, which left 17 people displaced, officials said.

The apartment management is trying to put the displaced victims in other units at the complex.

The fire is under investigation by the Wake County Fire Marshal.
