CLINTON, N.C. (AP) – Sampson County sheriff’s deputies have charged two women in a 2014 death.
Multiple media outlets reported the sheriff’s office released a statement Monday that officers got a tip about a location in the northern part of the county where they found human remains.
The remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office where they were identified as those of 24-year-old Danielle Alicia Chance of Sampson County.
Investigators working with the State Bureau of Investigation have charged 37-year-old Felicia Barnes of Jefferson City, Tennessee, with murder.
Betty Catherine West, age 24, of Angier has been charged as an accessory after the fact.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the homicide was believed to have occurred on Feb. 16, 2014. The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office said during that time, Chance was not in contact with her family.
It was not known if either woman has an attorney yet.
