NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Nashville mom posted a touching thank you note on Facebook after an Apple Store employee went above and beyond to help her son, who has special needs.
LynnMarie Rink and her son James, 9, were at the Apple Store in Green Hills on Thursday buying a new iPad when something outside the store caught the little boy’s attention.
James tried to run outside but ran into a clear glass wall instead.
“He smacked himself right into that wall. The sound was horrific and he fell flat over and then he hit his head again on the floor,” Rink told News 2.
Rink said everyone inside the store who saw what was happening gasped, including her.
As she sat down on the floor with her son to try to console him, a young employee named Andrew Wall came over to ask if the little boy was OK.
“Andrew came over and he sat down and he just looked at me and he just said, ‘What can I do for you?’ He might as well have given me a million dollars,” Rink said.
Andrew then went a step further by sitting down on the ground next to James while he programmed the boy’s new iPad.
Her son, who has Down syndrome and was diagnosed with autism, uses an iPad to help him communicate.
“That moment reminded me that there are good people in this world and that there will always be people to care for James,” Rink explained.
She posted a message on Facebook along with a picture she snapped of Andrew and James inside the store.
The post spread quickly online and she’s received hundreds of messages, even from people at Apple who told Rink that’s what they do as an organization, care for people first.
Rink has since connected with Andrew online, who said he’s surprised at how many times her Facebook was viewed.
“I did nothing except be on the receiving end of someone’s kindness,” she said, “and Andrew did say in some post, ‘I was just doing my job.’”
