PINEHURST, N.C. (WNCN) — A wreck between a van and SUV injured two people Tuesday in Pinehurst with one person being airlifted by helicopter from the scene.
The crash happened around 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of NC Hwy 211 and Memorial Drive, the Aberdeen Times reported.
The driver in one vehicle – a vintage Volkswagen Bus — was trapped during the accident, which required emergency responders to cut the driver from the vehicle.
That victim was transported from the scene of the accident by an ambulance to a soccer field behind the Pinehurst Fire Department where a landing zone had been set up. A helicopter from Duke Hospital landed and flew the injured victim to a nearby trauma center.
A second person who was in an SUV during the crash was transported from the scene to FirstHealth Hospital for treatment of injuries that were reported to be non-life threatening.
Both westbound lanes of NC Highway 211 were closed between Page Road and Gun Club Drive.
Pinehurst Fire Department, Aberdeen Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the Pinehurst Police Department responded to the scene.
