Driver of Porsche SUV hits and kills man on I-40 exit ramp, police say

GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) – A pedestrian was fatally hit by a vehicle on the Interstate 40 east ramp to Highway 70 east Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The crash happened just after 4:30 p.m. and involved a 36-year-old Clayton man driving a 2015 Porsche SUV, which hit a pedestrian.

Garner Police said the Porsche driver was heading east when he ran off the road to the right and collided with the pedestrian and also hit a guardrail/bridge structure.

James Allen Lucas, age 47, of no known address died in the incident.

Police shut down traffic in the area until about 9 p.m. while they investigated.

City County Crime Investigation units arrived on the scene just before 7:30 p.m.

“No contributing circumstances have been determined and no charges have been filed,” Garner Police said.
