CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A 7-year-old “die-hard” Carolina Panthers fan just got the surprise of a lifetime, and it was all captured on camera.
Cooper, a 2nd grader and Charlottean since 2012, has only missed one home game since the 2013 season. Next month, he’ll be watching the Panthers play the Denver Broncos in Santa Clara, California.
So how did this young fan get so lucky?
Cooper’s 74-year-old grandmother got season tickets in 2013 and has been a holder ever since. With her at every home game, including the NFC Championships, is Cooper.
“He had a hard time when the Panthers lost to the Falcons,” Cooper’s dad Steve said of the 2015 season.
Cooper’s grandmother knew ahead of time if she got tickets to the Super Bowl, there was only one person she wanted to bring.
Well, she got tickets. Next was figuring out how to share this big news with her little game buddy.
Sunday, as if beating the Arizona Cardinals and becoming the NFC Champions wasn’t enough, Cooper was in for a much bigger surprise.
While having dinner, Cooper was handed an envelope at the Dilworth Neighborhood Grill. Inside, it basically said “you are going to the Super Bowl,” Steve said.
Not knowing how to handle the excitement, Cooper gasped and covered his bright face. “He was trying to fight crying,” Steve said.
“We are really happy he has the chance for this once in a lifetime opportunity! He’s a great kid and we are thrilled for him!!,” Steve posted on Facebook. The video has had more than 1,500 views since being posted Wednesday.
“That’s one thing about Cooper. He’s very appreciative, no matter how small the gift may be,” Steve said, calling Cooper an “old soul.”
