NC church worker took nearly $1,000 from offering plate over several Sundays, officials say

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WNCN) — An Elizabeth City man has been arrested and is facing a larceny charge for taking money from his church, officials say.

Police say Timothy Wilder Stallings, age 56, was arrested on Jan. 20.

Stallings is facing a felony charge of larceny by employee in connection with the arrest, WAVY-TV reported last week.

According to the Elizabeth City Police arrest report, Stallings was an employee at Calvary Baptist Church. He is alleged to have stolen and used money from the church in 2015.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by WTKR-TV, Stallings stole church offerings from Sunday services on October 11, October 18, November 15, November 22, and November 29.

The thefts included an $850 personal check and $130 in cash, WTKR reported.

Elizabeth City Police say the investigation is ongoing at this point, and they are following up on other leads.
