Sanctions against Duke sororities lifted, spokesman says

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Sanctions levied against Duke sororities Jan. 27 following an alcohol-related incident on campus have been lifted, a spokesman confirmed.

A 19-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after a alcohol related incident in Randolph Residence Hall on East Campus.

Immediately following the incident, all sorority activities were suspended but that soon changed.

On Wednesday night, the suspension of activities was partially lifted.

Sorority chapters could still host events including study breaks, sisterhood events, chapter meetings and philanthropy/community service activities.

University spokesman Keith Lawrence confirmed Monday the sanctions had been lifted.

The girl listed in critical condition following the incident but University leaders said she was expected to be OK.
