MORRISVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – A portion of Morrisville Parkway between N.C. 54 and Davis Drive will be closed for about six months as contractors work to build a rail overpass to eliminate a rail road crossing.

The section of Morrisville Parkway near the Park West shopping center between Bristol Creek Drive and Crabtree Crossing Parkway will be closed beginning Monday, Feb. 8.

Detour signs have been posted.

The overpass will help eliminate backups on Morrisville Parkway when trains travel through the area.

The project is also part of the Piedmont Improvement Program to modernize railroad track, roads and bridges along the corridor between Raleigh and Charlotte.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation reminds drivers to watch signs for construction and detour information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
