NC correctional officer accused of trying to provide contraband to inmate

TILLERY, N.C. (WNCN) – A correctional officer in Halifax County was arrested for attempting to provide tobacco products to an inmate, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said.

During a random operation conducted by the North Carolina department of Public Safety Division of Prisons and City County Drug Task Force on Jan. 20, officers found about 200 cigarettes in Rontavis Sharez Thompson’s possessions.

The 25-year-old was arrested and transported to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Thompson was given a $1,000.00 bond with a March 23, 2016 court date.
